Technos' WonderPlay *TRYING TO FORWARD PORTS*

Post by Technos72 » Mon Aug 23, 2010 11:33 pm

As said earlier in my alien swarm topic I am making a server for wonderland forum members on steam. Members who are my steam friends are able to join. It's in the following games:

- alien swarm
- garry's mod
- team fortress 2

THANK YOU XPR'D FOR GMOD AND TF2 AND THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS HAPPEN!

The first game is Team Fortress 2 on ctf_2fort. I'm doing some testing before I can do this because I think firewall is blocking my server. Others who own this game can help with this if possible.

EDIT: TF2 ping for my server is dead. someone please make a server and pm us the password!

I would come to play Team Fortress 2/Garry's Mod but they lag horribly for me.

Here's a tip.

Using the "create server" thing in most games, including TF2 and GMod, will not work for people outside your household.

Actually port forwarding won't work and dedicated server won't work. I'm still trying ot figure out the problem

EDIT: I might be able to make the server. I just need either xpr'd or ben09 to help me since we're steam friends. I need one of them to chat with and see if my server is available to the public. I'm running a LAN server.

I suddenly notice that it's not the firewall that not letting others on the server. It was a LAN server the whole time. Who knows how to fix this?

Since nobody is replying to my posts and if I don't know how to make my LAN server back into internet, we'll might have to do a Hamachi server. Download it here.

In case you haven't known, Hamachi is used to make a private LAN over the internet with others. People who join this WonderFourmPlay group in Hamachi can play an online game and access the LAN server for playing with others. If you want to try WonderForumPlay download Hamachi and PM me for password to the group and launch the game and wait for my server. But I haven't tried it yet so it may not work D:

Are you using Source Dedicated Server or the Create Server option? The latter almost never works with internet servers, don't use it.

correction: It never works with an internet server. It ALWAYS makes a LAN server, despite it being told to or not.

Do I use TF2 dedicated? If so, the ping is at 0 when I do it.

No, it does work sometimes, it's just impossible to figure out when it's going to or not.

I've just discovered something

I went into Command Prompt and used the IP adress for my internet connection 192.168.0.101. I typed "ping 192.168.0.101". It showed the ping for this adress and it was at 0. That means it's dead. I checked a website showing my IP adress 174.117.67.61. I think this is the answer to this problem after I typed "ping 174.117.67.61" and said ping was at 13. So it's working.

I think I just need to switch IP adresses to solve this problem. How?

"192.168.#.#" is your local IP. Only people in your house can connect to things using it. That other IP is your REAL IP. It's the one that works.

I think you're supposed to port forward to run a gmod and tf2 server. But I can't login to my port forward thing. I mean my router is a wireless adapter (Don't even know if it IS a router) and I'm running on it's wireless USB. Every time I login to my router correctly it says "invalid password try again". I'll going to do it on the family laptop that is right next to the router thing and it will WORK! *shot*

In the meantime I'll run Alien Swarm servers for now until I can get this port forwarding thing right. Right after I continue working on my WA project The Hero's Pyramid. I've got a long way to go before It's finished.
