Advanced levels...help!

Post by lgrapes » Mon Jul 26, 2004 10:27 pm

Hi All,

I have read over all of the instructions on how to download the special advanced levels...I have created the folders and sub-folders but when I try to download they are not there. My system is 1 years old...is there something I need to purchase to make everything work?

I feel so left behind :(

Any ideas? Any help would be so great...Is there one specific post that gives step by step directions that I can print up and follow to make sure I have done everything correctly? Whenever I look for a post I find several...which confuses the he-- out of me...

Thanks...Lori

Sorry to hear you had so much trouble w/ custom models.

It's a little hard sometimes to communicate computer how-to-do over the forums since we don't know what things actually look like on your computer.

But let's start with this: do you know if you're using Windows XP or not? (This question is critical because older versions of Windows like Win98 doesn't have build-in support for zip files, so totally different steps would need to be taken.)

Actually, let me simplified the question:

When you turn on the computer, do you have to go through some sort of "log in" screen (where you have to click on something like your name) before you get to your actual programs etc.? Or does it take you directly to your programs without any sort of "log in" screen?

If it's the former then you're probably using Windows XP, if it's latter then you're definitely not.

Lori,

Hope this will help. I don't know how computer savvy you are so if this sounds a bit like I'm talking down to you, please don't take it that way :D

This is the sequence for downloading Movie Night.
Since you have XP follow these steps.

This is for the CustomModels download.
Repeat for the CustomHouses download.
Download the Level File and..........Enjoy!

jg

PS: It is very important that all the folders are spelled and spaced correctly. (CustomModels..NOT...Custom Models)

If it doesn't say CustomModels in the save in box...click on the blue down arrow and click on Local disc (C) then click on RTWD and then you should see and click on CustomModels.

Good instructions.

If you aren't using winzip on your computer, XP has its' own built in extractor so the file just might say zip. I'm not real certain because I prefer to use a different extractor and also do not play the game on my XP.

Ok, since you have Windows XP, the following instructions I've just made of what I do should hopefully work for you; it worked for me so far.

See http://www.pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1390 (this is a link, click on it to get there). It has pictures included.

PM me or post here if you have further questions or problems.

Oops, looks like janetgalle's instructions is far superior to mine, and much shorter too.

So try janetgalle's first, and if that's somehow not working try mine, and then if that also doesn't work then cry help again and we'll be around to puzzle over it.

Thank you Janet and LinkyNStoof!!!!

I am also having problems with this. I have tried SO many times, to make it work, with no succes   :?

I've even PM'ed Inger, to see if she could explain it to me in norweigan/danish, but I could only make a few of the models work, with her help...

I've now printed out janets instructions and will try them first....

I've also tried to print out LinyNStoofs' but about half of the text is missing...

(I have windows 2000 - but in a danish version, so I'll have to translate everything and thats my main problem; while I maybe abel to "chat in english", it is far more difficult for me to understand the tecnical terms/words... )

Anyway, thanks again (also to Lori for bringing this up, so I didn't have to  )

This visual also really helped me get all of the custom things. But I had my CustomHouses folder in with the CustomModels folder and that prevented me from getting the houses!! I've got it all straightened out now and am really enjoying looking at everything!!! Thanks to all of you "custom builders" and everyone else for helping the rest of us!!!!! :P

I have windows 2000. There is no difference from the instructions except for the program that you use for unzip. See what you can do on your own, and continue asking questions if need be. If you are having success with some of the models, then your download and unzip procedure seems to be ok. You might be having double folders on some of the files that aren't working?

A big huge Thank You to both of you :!: :D :D :D :D :D

Yippee! YaHoo! Have a drink! (Have 2, have one for me!)

Way to go! Don't the custom items add to the overall appeal of the levels?
I don't go in for a lot of tricky stuff, usually, so I rely on visual effects alot.
What fun!! Enjoy the lot of them!!!
