Unzipping

Post by Peggy Clarke »

I have Windows XP and there seems to be no way of unzipping files. I have tried everything and nothing works. Can someone help with a solution.

You should be able to unzip files in XP. You should be able to right click the zip file and select 'Extract all', then the wizard will then take you through unzipping.

Some people use WinZip instead which you'll have to download and install. If you do a search for Winzip on the net you should find the website. As far as I know it's free.

Thank you for your reply, I have tried right clicking to extract files, and so on, but when I try to open them to play the levels they don't work. I have had a look for Winzip on the web, but you have to pay, but I will take another look.

Are you sure you're unzipping to the right folders, or that you don't have 'double folders'? If you have the Windows Unzipping tool then you shouldn't need Winzip. The downloads have to go in the proper folders and not just in the RTW directory.

Here's how I do it.

Click on 'download' and choose 'open' not 'save'.
When the window opens, click 'extract all'.
The Windows unzipping wizard will open, click 'next'.
In the browse window find the RTW folder then the appropriate folder, eg, CustomModels for models, CustomTextures for textures, etc.
Click 'next' again.
You can please yourself whether you have the 'show extracted files' box checked or unchecked. Click 'finish'.
The wizard will unzip the folder and put it straight into the folder you specified. This ensures you don't end up with double folders like you can if you save the folder first then unzip it.

If you're downloading levels then click save as these aren't usually zipped and can be saved straight to the CustomLevels folder.

Thanks, I have done it now. I know where I was going wrong, I was making a new folder first then unzipping, so I had two folders, I am going to try again though just to be sure I have it right.

I would like to download large files, but I think you have to make smaller folders, otherwise I could crash.

Thanks again

The maximum size for the zip files is less than 1MB so it shouldn't cause you to crash. Usually though, they are a lot less than that. That's on here of course, not on Mette's site, I don't know how big the zip files are on there.

Hi, It was Mettie's file I was thinking about. The monthly one, so that shouldn't be too big.

I might just start with the Kids ones, as I am new to this game

Hi

I am very grateful for your help. I have downloaded all of the levels up to 18th Aug 2007, and they work fine.

Hi Pauline,

Have you played Wonderland Adventures? I am considering buying the full version.

Yes I have played Wonderland Adventures all the way through. Not sure how far the demo takes you, but once you get to the Marketplace you can buy things from the merchant which will make life a lot easier. It's well worth the money. :D

The demo ends just before Wondertown, like in WSW.
