New Level -- Sadism!

Post by Muzozavr » Sun Feb 10, 2008 9:06 am

Let's just say, that there are NO glitches and NO hidden items, and NO generators, EVERYTHING is in plain sight, so peeking in the editor will NOT help.
And there is a particular clever trick which I never saw used before, but it's actually not so new... will you figure it out?
I'll admit: this level was tough even for me. After being wiped out like a dozen of times in the same place, I was ready to ease it up. Luckily I finished it in the present configuration.
And yes, I'm aware about the "extra" metal box you have after the ending, it's that just that it looks cooler as a fire blocker (as it doesn't detract from the general style) and you can't use it anywhere anyway. And I'm NOT going to add an extra button near it, and force you to push it (for example) down, because then I'll have to do it ALL OVER AGAIN!!!
Have fun, and beware.

Not too difficult? Have I lost my touch or am I just blind to some sort of a loophole.
Please PM me the way you used to kill the red dude. If it's a loop, I'll try to fix it.
If you REALLY found two tricks in a row "not too difficult" -- time for me to eat my crow!
EDIT: It's real. Got to find my crow and eat it. Mmm, so nice with potato chips.

This should help you feel better, Muz. I have no clue as to how to kill the red dude. May I have some help, please. I have all of the coins collected.

I can see how to to do this level but if I'm correct it requires that you move Loof at something near the speed of light to make it work.

Of course I could be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time.

Bob, there are ways to move faster than the speed of light!

Amnon, why don't either you or Muzo put up a small spoiler?

Both of you know how to do it so that it has to be highlighted to be read.

You don't seem to be have any problems throwing them out on my levels or others, so what's the problem here? :?

Speaking just for myself, these little cryptic posts are becoming annoying.

OK, a spoiler...It is wasteful to use the heavy-weight kaboom on such a petty detail as the barrel in the bottom section. Light rays are (did we say "light"?) so much lighter!

You simply do not understand the word 'cryptic' do you?

You also don't seem to know how to post a proper spoiler so that it has to be completely highlighted to be read.

Well, use the cannon and prism to shoot the wood-box on the bottom part (next to the barrel): keep the kaboom for the bad red dude!

Please use Quote for totally highlighted spoilers. I use the code tag to show you how it looks like.
This way:

Code: Select all
This is my spoiler here!
it will look like this:
This is my spoiler here!
And when bob PMed me, he told me his actual problem for which your spoiler is actually still pretty... not cryptic, I would say misleading. I cannot tell it without a total give-away, sorry.
However, I can give you a small clue, which shouldn't be misleading in ANY case:
The cannon cannot be used to kill the red dude, since you need it to destroy the wooden boxes behind the red gate.
Is there anything else on the level which could destroy the red dude?
The particular toughness of such levels to be hinted at, is that the crux of the whole problem is usually a very small trick, and after it was given away, the rest of the level is usually no challenge at all.
Mind you, I could give you a total give-away -- but for my first "tricklevel" in a LONG time one day is just SO early.
I promise you to post a more detailed a spoiler a few days after.
Rest in peace, Kym. I hardly knew ya.
Rest in peace, Marinus. A bright star, you were ahead of me on my own tracks of thought. I miss you.

Got it!

It was always the red gate that was giving me fits, getting rid of the red guy was never a problem.

Then I remembered a move from someone else's level and the light finally came on! :D

Great stuff Muzo, thanks!

:D :D :D Like I just wrote to Bob, Its amazing how many times we see a certain move in one level but fail to recognize in in another. DOH!
Nice work Muz, Thanks Amnon for trying and thanks Bob for the heads up on that move, Gawd! :D :D :D

Done! And it wasn't too hard after all.

I forgot that reflector move, also, Kiki! Once I got your hint about that, Muz, it was a piece of cake after that.

Thanks for the level!

Solution for "Sadism":
Step in the red teleporter from the left.
Carefully collect all bonus coins and return by the same route (which means don't push the reflector up just yet)
When you're back out near the cannon, wait until the shot has reflected off the reflector and push the reflector down, in the teleporter. This will clear the problematic box at the right without using up the precious Kaboom!
Mind you, I COULD force you to repeat the trick again for the barrel -- no. Nobody's THAT antisocial.
Go back in the teleporter and push the reflector up. Wait until the shot is between the two teleporters and teleport right over it, pushing the reflector up.
Push the cannon down to clear out the two wooden boxes below the red gate.
Push the reflector on the red button.
Carefully push the rightmost boulder down and right, the middle one right and down, and the leftmost right. Push the metal box on the white button. (this also blocks the cannon) Collect the coins you've used as stoppers.
Push the box on the cyan button, the barrel into the gap, and take the coin.
Near the three metal boxes, push the two side boxes up, and the middle one sideways. This will clear your way.
Collect the coin on the pink button, and immediately step back to not to release the Kaboom! improperly. Push a box on the pink button.
Let the Kaboom! to get into the room with the red shadow stinker. Follow him as closely as you can. As soon as he is adjacent to the red shadow, simply step up and both will self-destruct.
Go all the way back to take the coin that was guarded by Kaboom! and all the way back again to exit.
Rest in peace, Kym. I hardly knew ya.
Rest in peace, Marinus. A bright star, you were ahead of me on my own tracks of thought. I miss you.

Thank you for the walk thru Muz, never thought to go back thru the tp the same way I went in. I ran into a bit of a problem though...in your spoiler...if I push the rightmost boulder down and right I have to take that one coin on the right and move the metal box which means the middle one won't go right and down. So I did the rightmost boulder the way you said then pushed the left one right, then right again, I just pushed the last one right to get it out of the way then I manipulated the metal boxes and covered the white button and the green buttons with them by using the tp.

Thanks for the level, enjoyed it once I got the beginning going.
