New Level - Head 'em Up & Move 'em Out

Post by malcdelsol » Sun Feb 29, 2004 10:25 am

Hi Wonderlanders,

Something a little different from me.

My previous levels have been 'Smallworld' with a fair amount of logic/puzzle involved.

With this level you have loads of time and not much logic to work out (well it wouldn't be
a Malcdelsol level without any  )

Mind you a huge slice of luck wouldn't go amiss

So, Head 'em Up & Move 'em Out.

Good Luck,

Wow! Great level. Not easy at all.

Once I figured out about the boulder (which one? I'm saying nothing folks  ), I was fine. :)

Keep 'em coming Malc. :P

Hi Wonderlanders,

Thanks for that Bearsland - glad you enjoyed it

Now Maureen, as well as being interested in what other Wonderlanders
think about my levels, for this level I'm also keen to see who remembers
the classic TV program.

I remember it as probably the first TV western that caught my imagination
as a youngster, although in your case I'm sure you had to ask an elderly
relative, who then told you how it was the launch-pad for Clints' career.

I'm sure you'll ask if you need any hints for this or any of my levels.

Good Luck,

Wish I could say that someone else told me about the show!
As a child I loved this and Wagon Train. Good long term memory malcdelsol it's the short term...............................

I tried using the boulder, think I put it in the wrong place!

Oh well, back to the old drawing board.

Cheers

Maureen.

Hi malcdelsol,
I remember the show in question. The name too,. I loved it too. I always tried to make sure I caught it as a child. I even had an early childhood crush on Clint! I liked Wagon Train, too, M.A.D. :D

Malcdelsol, I am enjoying this level. I've figured out what to do with the boulder, I think :? , but am having a time getting the zbots and kabooms to cooperate. Once I get past them, I do something stupid like forgetting about a ufo or something else and get poor Stinky wiped out! Good thing he has such a nice disposition. :) I'm really enjoying working this one out (as I enjoy all your levels).

HI,

Remember it? You bet. We even had a Rawhide Themed 40th Birthday party for one of my sister in laws.(The old cow) We had a really hard time finding a recording of the song, but eventually we did and we had a blast! Half of us dressed up as cowboys and the other (unfortunate) half dressed up like cows, and we all came galloping in to the bar to the blaring of "Head em up, move em out!!!!

Could someone post his/hers solution here, please. I enjoy playing from time to time, but I really have better things to do than thinking about overlay difficult levels like this.

Perhaps I should start a new thread with this complaint (again), cause I really think that solution should be posted with every level (in a separate thread so no one will be forced to read it). It is utterly annoying having to do 2/3 of a level all over again just to solve one tidbid.

Thanks for your help

Just to help you out, I have posted below the level I was going to post for Freightrain's April Fool challenge. I have added a bit of extra 'thinking time' just in case you get stuck.

I would still play this song, I have it on tape along with loads of others from that era. I'm 99.9% sure it's sung by Frankie Laine.

Hi Milchi,

Firstly, can I say how sorry I am that you find playing my levels a
waste of your time.

********* SOLUTION *********

Don't play them

********* END OF SOLUTION **********

Secondly, I have no intention of giving a solution to my levels at the time
that I post them on this forum.

As with my other levels, there are several posts above where I can see
that other Wonderlanders have perservered and solved this level.
I trust that they enjoyed the challenge and were therefore relatively
satisfied when they finally 'cracked it'.

How would I not know, that all they had done when they could not
complete the level in 5 minutes, was to have gone and read the solution. :?: :?:

However, when anyone asks for hints etc. I will always oblige, therefore :-

************** SPOILER ALERT *************

It is essential that you keep the bolder running so that it can be used
in each of the 3 sections of this level.

Section 1:-

Push the bolder to kill a kaboom - there is a cycle to there movement.

If pushed at the correct time not only will the bolder continue onto
the next section, but also you have plenty of time wait for 3 Z-Bots to pass and
then to collect both of the coins.
Go down to collect the bonus coins and then go right to finish this section.

Section 2:-

Move lower wooden box.
Get destroyed by the UFO the 4 wooden boxes.
The pink gate will now stop the bolder.
Ensure you then replace the lower wooden box to open the pink
exit gate.
Push bolder across the ice to kill all of the chompers.
Follow across and collect all coins.
When conveyor belt is running again push bolder up and follow to left of upper-most tree.
As soon as bolder is running left to right step on timer so as to get the bolder to move onto the 3rd section.
Getting the bonus just takes good timing.
Go down left side so as to avoid UFO and then right to enter 3rd section.

Section 3:-

Push wooden box onto spikes to get destroyed.
Push metal box out and down so as to stop the bolder.
Push metal box down to lowest wall and across 1 space to the right.
Collect the coins (suggest you leave the furthest most right coin ti'll last)
Push bolder down and immediatly follow.
Push bolder right and step on the timer to get the bolder to move into
the final 'run home'.

N.B. It is possible to complete this section and the run-home using the
metal box and ignoring the bolder.
However, as the metal box will hesitate when a coily gets in its' way
there is a greater than 50-50 chance that Stinky will get attacked
from another side. Running behind the bolder is 100% safe.

*********** END OF SPOILER **********

I trust this will allow you to complete this level.

Hi malcdelsol

I just read the solution for your level.
I followed the same techniques to the conveyor room, but then finished it in a different manner.
The timing getting the boulder into the room is so finite, and it was always destroyed after killing the chompers, so I never used it again.

It is amazing to find, when you make a level and think everyone will play it the way it was intended, that there can be another way.

Man you sound like an overbearing parent when you said this.

Seems to me if they were going to do this, they're likely not going to enjoy your level in the first place anyway, whether the hint is there or not. I think it's their lost if they give up only after 5 minutes and have to read the solution.

I (and I'm sure most others here) have no problem regarding when you decide to release hints/solutions for a level, and I'm not saying for you to either give out solutions earlier or later either way. I just want to remark that you sounded almost like a teacher casting a suspicious eye on the students for cheating when you said the above. There's nothing wrong if Milchi wants to "give up after 5 minutes" and "have gone in read the solution"; personally I think it would be her lost but it's her choice.

I do agree that sometimes that can get annoying. I especially found myself in that position when doing "Stinky Crusoe" in the small world competition, and it is one of the more sour notes I had on that otherwise wonderful level.

But keep in mind that you can always use the level editor to move Stinky past the parts of the level you're no longer interested in doing for the 100th time. Yes I admit that would probably feel a bit of a cheat (I myself had yet to do this), and there's the danger that you accidentally end up reusing something from the skipped parts that would've already been used up if you didn't skip the part (and therefore misleading you into thinking you've solve the level when in fact it wouldn't have work if you did it from the beginning). But hey, if it means not getting aggrevatd after the 100th screech from Stinky after spending hours on it, go for it. People have already been using things like untimed mode and All-Worlds-Unlock on the official levels anyway.

(possible unintended spoilers below?)

Hmm...interesting. I didn't think about using the boulder on the last part of the level. And can't you use the wooden box instead of the steel box at the last part of the level?

I haven't finished the level yet, I'm up to the part after you collected all the coins and then all-hell-breaks-loose with the Coilys, though since I still have so much time left, I expected that as long as I waited long enough for the cannons to eliminate enough coilys, with just a little luck I should be able to get across to the bottom of the level and proceed to the exit.

I think I'll still finish it my way, then try your way and see how that works out.

Hey Bearsland, despite doing a search through all your posts here, I can't seem to find this "Not Too Hard" level malc is talking about. Do you remember the name (and rough date) of the thread where you posted it?

If you didn't post it here, I would highly encourage you to do so.
It's in this thread, about 11 posts up.

Glad you asked LNS. :)

My wife and I collect teddie bears; Cherished Teddies to be exact. We have over 600 in various shapes and sizes, (figurines, plates, plaques, soft toys, etc...). They are all over our house.

Bearsland is the name of our house. People called it that so many times, we now have a sign on at our front door saying so.

When I started posting on 'net forums it seemed as good a name as any to use. Most people call me Bear or Old Bear, (my wife, friends and family do). I'd be delighted to be known as that here in Wonderland. :D :D

So now you know. :)

Hi LinkyNStoof,

This morning when I came onto this forum I was pleased to see that
there were some 9 replies to my levels as I enjoy reading other
Wonderlanders comments regarding my levels - Good or bad.

You can imagine then how overjoyed I was that 7 of them were from
yourself. One of these posts in my opinion is getting a little personal.

I have no intention of getting involved in a slanging match with you or
anyone else for that matter.

Perhaps we could make a pact ??

If you can ever spare some of your time to create a playable level
for this forum, I promise not to post a single reply on that thread.
I would appreciate it if you would do the same on my threads.

Thankyou,

Um, it wasn't my intention either.

I just thought that you and Bearsland (well not so much Bearsland) might've been a little too hard on Milchi, that's all. I also did feel that what you wrote, "How would I not know, that all they had done when they could not complete the level in 5 minutes, was to have gone and read the solution", were unnecessarily strong words. I'm pretty sure that Milchi had in fact tried harder than merely 5 minutes when he/she requested for a solution in exasperation. Also, having a solution available doesn't necessarily mean Milchi will now stop doing any thinking on that level. I myself have once in a while need hints for a few of the official Wonderland/RTW levels, but most of the time I don't read the entire solution on the website, just enough of it so that I can get past the current roadblock. And frankly, I thought it's the level designer's job to dictate what to be solved, not to dictate the exact thought process in doing so. It's up to Milchi to decide how much (or little) thinking she wants to do on your level. As I said, it's entirely to the level maker's discretion in what and how many hints and when to give them out, but there's no need to make it seem like Milchi is committing a sin by asking for the level solution.

Thus I was only criticizing what you said, not you personally. I don't intend to offend you or anyone, and I sincerely apologize for any bad feelings caused by what I said.

Ok, now you sound like you don't want to talk to me anymore. Oh well, I guess that's your choice. Just want you to know though that when I do get around to posting a new level, I would appreciate your comments, positive negative or otherwise, just as well as everyone else's. As for your threads, sure, if you don't want me to ever say anything on any of your threads, then no more replies it is. Getting to "rainbow seeker" status by making everyone unhappy isn't exactly something I would be proud of.

------------

Ok back to playing other people's levels. I better make a bunch more posts to bump this eyesore of a post down from the top of the thread list.
