NO TEXTURES?

Post by bob roest » Sun Feb 22, 2009 5:17 pm

I am trying to post a new level with a texture attached but it won't take the texture, this is the message that pops up:

Sorry, but the maximum filesize for all Attachments is reached. Please contact the Board Administrator if you have questions.

Anybody got any ideas? I tried attaching several different textures but the same thing. I can however load the level.

Is the problem on my end or might it have something to do with all the 'Video Solutions' on page 1? :?

I don't know what the problem could be. :?
My "Video Solutions" are just links to another page.

I'm just grasping at straws. :D

Can you load a level with a texture or is it just me?

I just tried and received the same error message as you. :?
I'm wondering if the server has hit it's limit.

If you click on your name, there is an option that allows you to remove posted topics. Maybe that goes for attachment as well?

Hi Inger,
Bob's trying to attach a texture, not remove it.

I thought the server just had an upgrade? I'm confused.

This must be happening to other level-maker as well, it can't be just you and me.

I think what Inger is talking about is...if you click on your own name it will bring up your user profile. On the right hand side if you look it will show you an upload qouta. If that has reached the maximum you might have to remove some stuff. I wouldn't remove any of your levels though.

Otherwise I would say it has something to do wth the board itself.

I think the idea was to post a texture only once in the subforum "Custom Content" and everyone who uses a texture for his/her level only put a link to the texture. But since most people are uploading the same texture with each level it requires much more space on the server, also because a texture is much bigger then a level.

So probably, like Mark said, the attachments limit of the server has reached. But of course it would be lots of work, to remove all those textures and place a link instead of. Maybe Patrick can change the settings of the forum so there will be more room for attachments.

Thank you, Monica. I never knew that feature even existed. :)

That's a great practical solution to conserve on server space.

Then it's probably a glitch of some sort. Did you already contact Patrick?

I never noticed that on the profile either but as you can see from mine, I'm no where near my limit. :D

We need to hear if any other level-makers are having the same problem, two is not enough.

I have not contacted Patrick and I have to go out for awhile, can you fill him in Mark?

Looks like it might just be us, Bob. I also wasn't able to send a texture attached to a private message and I'm at 1% of my quota.

Janet uploaded one and I see it worked fine. Have you tried it again Bob, maybe it was a glitch with the board and it worked it's way out.
Thanks Uneeskrose, that's what I meant. Just an idea anyway.

I found it quite by accident. I always like to click on my name and see what everyone else is seeing in some forums. Wanted to make sure my profile wasn't showing something it wasnt' supposed to be showing.

Did you send Mark a message? It's still not working for me.

Wait a minute it just worked again. Maybe it was just a glitch. :?

Bob, did you want to upload a completey new texture then? If you want to use an existing texture you simply can put a link to it, shouldn't be a problem though?

You can also try to remove a few existing textures, and replace them with a link, and then try again.

I also tried to upload a texture just as a test and I got the same message.

Edit:
Mark wrote:Looks like it might just be us, Bob. I also wasn't able to send a texture attached to a private message and I'm at 1% of my quota.
The message says "Sorry, but the maximum filesize for all Attachments is reached. Please contact the Board Administrator if you have questions."

So it's doesn't matter what's your personal quotum. Maybe it's just in the general forum settings, that there may be no more then xxx MB attachments in total.

Edit 2: I tried also to PM a texture as a test and then I got this message:

Sorry, but the maximum filesize for all Attachments is reached. Please contact the Board Administrator if you have questions.
Sorry, but the maximum filesize for all Attachments in your Private Message Folder has been reached. Please delete some of your received/sent Attachments.

I was able to upload one as a test but now it's not working again.

This is becoming annoying.

Mark contacted me on this.

Yes, indeed, the attachment quota for the board was reached. There is now 1 Gigabtye of attachments on this forum. Yikes!

I have set the limit to 2 Gigabytes - that should give lots more room to play.

However, as was pointed out above, my original idea was indeed to have people post the attachment once in the Custom Content folder, and then link any subsequent use to that forum (rather than re-posting). It would be very helpful if that could be done in the future (I certainly wouldn't expect people to go through 1000s of posts to re-link their attachments).

Happy Creating!

I'll try to do that if I can find the texture in the Custom Content folder but I just did a search for rescuefire's 'love' texture and I got 38 hits with lots of her textures, but not that one. :D

Thanks all. Just give it one try, if you don't find it immediately, feel free to still include it. But if possible, it would be good to avoid file duplication.

Anything, if it will help avoid the 'wood' texture.

Not every level is posted in the Custom Content folder, so if you're searching for a texture you may have more chance to find it if you also search in the P/A levels subforum.

Here are the links to the textures you were looking for. :D

I'm still confused by something, what else is new?

I've uploaded a fair amount of levels and most I've attached a custom texture to, yet I've only used 3% of the space allotted me. (see user profile above)

If everyone else has approximately the same upload space, how did we get to 1 Gigabyte of attachments? Are there players out there that have used close to 1,000 MBs of attachments?

Anyone have the answer?

:D Let me tell you a little secret then Bob: 1 Gigabyte = 1000 Megabyte. So those 1000 MB you saw in your profile (probably 2000 now, if you look again) isn't just the upload space only for you, but the total upload space for everyone here on the forum together. So you weren't using 3% of your own upload space, but 3% of the total upload space of the forum.

However, since you're making great levels, and I don't, it's allright with me that you're using that much space. 8) :D

and if you go into some maths you will find out that you only need about 33 people to have that much on their quota to reach 1 GB on the whole board. 8)

Thanks guys!

I don't pay much attention to the inner workings of these things, much the same as I don't know anymore what the engine in my car looks like.

I thought a gigabyte was like a 100 million megabytes! :D

So then, 1 gigabyte doesn't seem very big if I alone have used 3%!
