Stinky, Loof, and Qookie are in a room that contains a box with five hats in it- three blue, two red. Someone flicks off the lights so it is completely dark. Each of the three Stinkers takes a hat from the box and puts it on. When the lights are turned back on, each Stinker can see the other Stinkers' hats but not their own or the ones left in the box. Stinky says he can't work out what color his hat is, and Qookie says she can't work hers out either, at which point Loof says, "I know!" What color is Loof's hat, and how does he know? And by the way- Loof is blindfolded.
A fair number of guesses were made, and user mqdar eventually solved it much faster than I had expected.
Afterwards, someone mentioned that if I hadn't posted it on the forum, Patrick might have put it in the Midnight Post. Well, I found another brain teaser from the same book and Wonder-ified it. I PM'ed it to Jdl first to test it (with his permission, of course) and later PM'ed it to Patrick.
But looking at how things are going, I don't really think it's getting into the Post. So, here it is:
Before leaving for Wonderfalls, Peegue decided to entrust his collection of 17 Rainbow Stars to Stinky, Loof, and Qookie. He said that Stinky should get 1/2 of the stars, Loof should get 1/9 (poor him) and Qookie should get 1/3. Unable to carry out the instructions, the Stinkers were at a loss until a friendly Kaboom! offered to help them. What did the Kaboom! do?
First one to solve this gets the immense satisfaction of doing it!
