I am not going to pay in order to be able to open this "rar" file: if you want us to play those levels, then please upload them here in the usual manner. Thanks.

The file size is only 60.61 KB, which is quite small. You can put it in a zip file and attach it to your original post here in this forum.
Most forum members avoid downloading from hosting sites like "MediaFire" for fear of viruses, spyware and other malicious code.

An EXE file  Oy Vey! :(

One should never open a .exe file from the web, ever - it's a recipe for turning all your precious files into tomato juice.

Hi - generally, especially as a new and unknown user, you should not expect people to download compressed or executable files. There's too much danger with those kinds of files, so I do not recommend anyone download these.

Instead, why not post a few of the levels in the regular fashion (i.e. just attached the LEV files)... that way people will get to know you and your puzzles a little better first.

Self-extracting archives are always EXE files. You can download the RAR file instead.

As far, as "paying" goes... Amnon, check the Mediafire page really closely, there's an option for a free download. Mediafire is just really confusing, that's all.

Anyway, I have downloaded all the levels and there really is a whole bunch of LV6 files, separated by folders in 12 worlds. I'm not sure that separation is merited, but... whatever.

I don't have RTWP on this computer right now - I could get it from a backup any time I wanted, but I'm more focused on MOFI at the moment. So I haven't played these levels. BUT I'm uploading them in the "usual" manner here so that everyone can play more easily.

For MINERAYMAN: if you're using WinRAR to store multiple files in a single archive, try changing the compression type to ZIP. That always works unless you're using a really archaic version of WinRAR.
RAR files cannot be uploaded to the forum "normally", but if you make a ZIP file, you can upload it straight to the forum.

Rest in peace, Kym. I hardly knew ya.
Rest in peace, Marinus. A bright star, you were ahead of me on my own tracks of thought. I miss you.

Hi Minerayman
Welcome to this forum. :)
To present a kind of mini-RTW in the first post is an ambitious plan, and I appreciate all your work.
I've played the first half of your bundle so far, and it was a pleasant surprise to find some fine challenges in it.
'The Foot Of The Mountains' (world 06, level 026) for example is a fine puzzler.
But then I came up to 'Colored Stones' (world 06, level 029). And I stopped playing.

I'm thinking about downloading this file, but before I do, will you please tell us why you stopped playing, Chip?

Minerayman, will you please consider posting each level in an individual post?

Hi Minerayman
Are you here?
Do you have to tell us something about level 06/029?
Or about some of your other levels. 09/045 for example...

What about it? It's a nice and easy little puzzle

09/045 is not as easy, but very nice too once you get the trick.

I've made most levels.

So far the remaining ones I have difficulties with are:

02/008 (Thinking Way)
03/013 (Dangerous Road)
05/024 (Fear Center)
11/053 (Z-Bot Arena) - no exit

I have looked in the editor at 05/024 (Fear Center) and reached the conclusion that this level can only be played on a quantum computer.

Well, Minerayman
Let's talk about your levels 06/029 and 09/045.
It's absolutely OK to pick up and to develop the ideas of other level designers. We're here to share our fun, and as long as you mention the author of the original, then there is nothing wrong about this.
But what you did belongs to another category:
You just opened the levels 13 and 15 of the 'Platinum Set' with the editor, changed the style and the background (the originals are still visible) and posted the results as your own creations.
Sorry, but that's neither fair nor fun.

Reinstalled RTW and looked at the pack. Some levels are still partly or completely copied:

Level 28: start taken from Platinum level 10, end from Platinum level 11, turned 90 degrees. Needs changing.
Level 30: REDESIGNED verison of an end puzzle of some other level (I don't remember right now). Can stay the way it is.
Level 37: start is a REDESIGNED version of W3L3 from the original Wonderland. There are more coilies, making it impossible to kill all of them without messing up the level. Nice touch. Can stay the way it is.
Levels 38 and 44: this reminds me of "Mirror Image", but REDESIGNED completely. Can stay the way it is.
Level 46: this is Platinum level 16, replacing Stinky with Qookie and adding Stinky, Loof and Peegue near the exit. The 3D effect is taken out, making the level easier. Needs changing.
Level 50: this is "The Hedge Maze", a custom level by Midnight Synergy. Needs changing.
Level 51: this is "Hide and Seek", a custom level by Midnight Synergy. I haven't tested for changes inside the maze, but the layout is too familiar. Needs changing.
Level 52: this is "Bowling for Coilieys", a custom level by Midnight Synergy. Needs changing.
Level 54: Platinum level 07 (even the name is the same!) with all four characters and four transporters, one for each character. Needs changing.
Level 55: Second half is Platinum level 12. First half is interesting. Second half needs changing.

Change these 7 levels or find some big boxes to hide behind!!

The rest look original, though not all of them are equally well designed. Unlike Amnon, I can run "Fear Center" at playable (but not completely smooth) speed, so I can play it.

"Thinking Way" doesn't look possible at the moment, but I haven't spent enough effort on it.

For MINERAYMAN: if you want to know what to do with other people's layouts, check out my "Deja-Vu" levels. There are three of them, based on W9L1 from the first Wonderland game, on Platinum level 6 and on Platinum level 19 respectively. I have changed a few tiles in each of them, but the original solution does not work anymore. You have to find a new, much trickier one that's totally different.

I have once copied a small part from Mark's "Dance Macabre" and even though I gave credit, I still regret not putting my own creative spin on it. I did put my own creative spin on two other levels based on Mark's designs: "Spherework" was based on "No Bugs, My Lady" and I think it was the way I originally solved the level (or not? I don't remember) and "Rolling Sokoban II" is based on "Rolling Sokoban". Both times Mark gave me permission.

Actually, I think I didn't ask his permission for the "Dance Macabre" part (although it's a small one and I did give credit) but let's not ruffle sins of the past.

EDIT: Also, level 49 has BIG similarities to "Wonderland Exploration", a custom level by Midnight Synergy. Not sure if the redesigning here is enough.
Rest in peace, Kym. I hardly knew ya.
Rest in peace, Marinus. A bright star, you were ahead of me on my own tracks of thought. I miss you.

I'm kind of curious if any of these levels are original or are they all just copies of other peoples work?

I've noticed several things:

-

The first five worlds are all fun levels with a distinct style. I think they're all original levels. Levels 8, 13, and 53 are impossible, though.

I also think that level 24 is impossible. I can't see any way to get the key on the teleporter on the other side of the tollgate. Muz, how did you manage to complete it?

In world 6, almost everything except level 27 (and possibly level 26) has been copied from somwhere else. Level 28 is a mish-mash of two different platinum set levels, level 29 is level 13 from the platinum set, and level 30 is from world 5 in RTW, I think. Level 26 is a bit difficult. It almost certainly isn't made by the same person who made the first five worlds, but I can't think of where it's come from.

In worlds 7-10, we're back to the fun style of worlds 1-5. The only exception is level 45, which is copied from level 15 in the platinum set. Muz also claims level 50 is from a MS level.

According to Muz, levels 51 and 52 are made by MS. Level 54 is copied from platinum level 7, and level 55 is interesting. The last half is from platinum level 12, and the first half seems somewhat familiar... I can't place it, though.

Finally, world 12 is back to the fun style of worlds 1-5 and 7-10. The levels here look completely original.

-

All in all, this is a seriously messy collection of levels.

Most people don't release impossible levels. So levels like 8 and 13 are certainly original.

The last level (60) looks a bit suspicious. I have never played anything like it, but it's strange that someone completely new to the forum suddenly uses the "non-shooting UFO" trick. Though it's possible to stumble upon it by accident, decorating your levels with flames and then noticing that UFOs don't shoot and making this into a level.

Most of the levels that I couldn't place fall into the "simplistic action affair" category. Such levels exist, but they are fairly rare, so I can't imagine painstakingly finding them to produce a somewhat coherent action style. I think they're original.

The ones I was calling out, though, are definitely not original and need changing.

About level 30 and the original one - yes, but the original one did not have any prisms or anything like that, did it? The contents of the fake walls are different. Though I don't know if this is clever enough to count as a "reworked" level...

For level 24, download the latest version, I think he removed that coin. I got on the other side and even had two stinkers exit. Loof died due to a broken z-bot. The latest version also replaces levels 29 and 45 and adds an exit to 53.

Am I missing something? The UFO DOES shoot - one only needs to evade it, which is not too difficult.

Sorry, I was mistaken, it's not level 60. It's level 59. Try pressing the buttons.

EDIT: I changed my mind, the green button leads to the exit. The others were clearly meant to be death traps, but they don't work due to this problem. So this is probably an original one, too.

Yes, it didn't even cross my mind: once I got out safely I only sighed "good riddance, another one" and didn't bother visiting this level again - that's what happens when you have to cover 60 levels in one day.

MINERAYMAN level pack

Post by VirtLands » Fri Jul 19, 2013 1:25 am

Hi MINERAYMAN,
I haven't had time to play all of them yet.
Image I browsed through a few of them.

Image Here are my reactions:
Image Forest Maze ( couldn't find the exit )
Image Ghosts from the haunted castle ()
Image Chomper Grove ()

Image The Void A ( impossible )
Image The Void B ( nearly impossible )
Image The Void C ( cleverly made sticky cube puzzle, I enjoyed this one. )

Image Mysterious garden ( Nice job! )
Image Reunion ( A nice overdoes of break-tiles. )

Image Next time, please use less trees. Image

An in depth comparison of all levels ever made in order to find duplicated work is possible, and it would also be time consuming.

I pledge to never do pledgerisms. Would anyone else like to pledge?

Virtlands:

Except for the 4 levels I mentioned earlier, the other 56 are absolutely doable.

Whether they are good or original levels is a different question of course.
