DONT LET THEM GET YOU...

Post by Milchi » Fri Jan 09, 2004 4:51 pm

This is my first level. It can be solved with 1 minute time left, but it sure requires some observation, so don't expect that you'll manage it within the timeframe upon your first try.

Have fun

Anyone else have this problem - can't get out fast enough before the conveyor starts and I'm killed. - and you can't wait for the conveyor to start or you get killed. Am I missing something?? (PROBABLY - DUH!)

Hi Milchi,
I am envious of your genius. :) I'm still working on beating this level but like majic1 kept dying right off. Great level! :D

majic1 try pressing the enter button :D I did by accident and got the solution to the initial problem. Now for the rest of this level!

This level is a real challange but I am enjoying it. :)

Has anyone finished it? I can get one guy on the conveyor heading toward the exit. but always get killed when I don't time the gates correctly.
Then I am assuming the first guy thru can assist the 2nd guy?

A little help

Post by Milchi » Sun Jan 11, 2004 10:45 pm

Hi, everyone,

using the enter button is the right way to start. You might want to let Loof do some action and then return him to the shelter. Give me a yell if you need any more help.

Oh MY Gosh! After playing this over and over and over, I DID IT.

This was mighty tricky!
The clue to solving it is so simple, in hind sight, once you figure it out.
Milchi, you must be a genius!
If I had a gold star available, I would stick it right here x with your name under it.

Whew! Got it :D
I tried this late last night, and became frustrated because Milchi said it was possible in 60 seconds. I couldn't see how to do it at all, so it was off to bed
I was relieved to see others had been through it, so I went back at it today. 74 seconds!
Great job, Milchi!
I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to your next one, or not

Wow, you did it in 74 seconds?! Well, my own record was with 60 seconds left, so it took me four minutes. I guess I'm not such a genius after all, but I'm really glad you enjoyed this level. :D

Uhh... make that 134 seconds. I got done at 2:46, and messed up on my math.

I believe I can get even faster.

I'd be happy to describe my path if anyone's curious.

I was really frustrated that first night. I just didn't get it...

Turns out, there are a multitude of methods to get through this level, all variations on the same theme, but you can really save some steps with a little planning.

More, more, more... :D

I just finished with 3:24 left for a time of 1:36.
Can anyone top that? :D

In my best attempt, I finished with 4:06 left on the clock, all bonus coins collected.

Nice level, but I feel like there're one too many ways to solve the level, and I now wonder what the intended solution is. Still, fun to play. :D

Interesting "complaint": Too many solutions. Anyway, this is just what I intended, because levels with only one solution drive me crazy. And 54 seconds time to beat my level; I don't know how you did it, but I am a slow player and thinker.

Anyway, congrats

Oh I wasn't really complaining. I was just saying that, there seems to be such a big discrepency between "It can be solved with 1 minute time left, but it sure requires some observation" and the times achieved by me and DiscGolfer, it just made me curious whether we did something you didn't intend. But then again, it did require quite a lot of observations for me to eventually solve it in 54 minutes.

For your reference, my 54 minute soln roughly goes as follows (SPOILER):

1) move Stinky to the right; with the right timing, the conveyor belt stops just before it smashes Stnky onto the wall, and doesn't start moving again until Stinky got past that other part that would also smash Stinky onto a wall. As a result I didn't need to wait and switch to Loof to get Stinky off the conveyor belt safely.

2) Have Loof come out of his shelter, push a block into water, push that other block one step to the right, putting it right below the exit tile. This clears a path (except for the exit gate) to the exit that doesn't require going through the force floors + pink/yellow barriers along the right wall.

3) Move Stinky to that place near the conveyor belt where he's near the pink button, but can wait as long as he wants without having the z-bot colliding with him

4) Have Loof lure the UFO to shoot a fireball so he can get at those boxed-in coins

5) Move Loof to where that final coin is, waiting just below the pink barrier.

6) Once the z-bot move past Stinky going south, have Stinky quickly move through the bonus coins onto the pink button

7) quickly switch to Loof to collect that last rainbow coin and out of the pink barrier again

8) Move Stinky to the nearest red teleport and enter, and then head right (now that the exit gate is open) to exit

9) For Loof, just have him head north, and then head right to exit.

LNS-
Our solutions couldn't be more different. I can see why yours is faster.
I- (SPOILER)

have Loof go out of the "shelter" via the transporter and push the first box into the water. Then I run and get the reflector and push it toward the exit, via a route above the "shelter" I line it up with the remaining box, get behind it and wait. In a few seconds, the box is blown to pieces. I then run, with the reflector, to the right side of the "shelter" and wait for the left box to get blown up. I then push the reflector inside the 2 lane highway on the left, stopping to grab the coins inside the "shelter". I grab the stuff above the reflector I pushed in and then push the reflector onto the purple switch. I then get Stinky out, using Loof on a timed button (they're everywhere), I go get the other coin and we are outta there. That's kinda how I do it. There is a little more drama to it. It sounds like your method is better.

Interesting solution. In particular, using your idea, I was able to find a "cheater's solution" (no rainbow coins or bonus coins collected) that can get both Stinky and Loof out to the exit in as little as 29 seconds.

I think my solution (which actually has a little more switching back and forth than what I posted here) is faster partly because I try to split up the work of coin collection between Stinky and Loof, whereas in your method it seems like Loof is doing almost all the collecting. Also, one key thing in my 4:06 solution is to avoid waiting as much as possible, by switching to the other guy to do something (as much as possible) whenever one guy has to wait for something to happen.
--------------

Your idea of using the reflector (which I pretty much completely ignored) definitely has merit though; for example, I've just modified my solution to take advantage of the reflector (plus a few other minor things), and have now push the time to 4:12 (48 seconds), with everything collected. Ironically though, it did not give me a better score, because apparently in my 4:06 solution an extra z-bot gets killed. [I would have to wait an extra 4 seconds in my 4:12 solution for the same z-bot to get killed, in which case it improves my 4:06 score by only 20 pts.]

I finally was able to do this level. I did it similar to LinkyNStoof but not as fast. Took me 75 seconds.
