I'll tell you, these TX guys are good ! ! ! ! ! !
Actually, we had some cable problems a while back, no internet or TV, and, similar to your situation, the tech eventually traced it to a pole problem quite a long way from our house. He replaced the faulty cable and every thing was fine after that - until it went out on Sunday (but we know the reason for that, don't we ? ? ? ?)
Glad it's all getting better for you, and we are pleased to loan you our techy guy

Ann, I'm sure Texass has more than one competent cable guy, but hey maybe not since Missouri doesn't have any, maybe Missouri decided to keep yours held hostage, I haven't had any problems since he was here
Sharon, I hate to write this, but when they come to dig up your cable to replace it , make sure they're NOT running over your water lines. When the phone company came & buried our cable they ran over the water line where it connected to the meter, unknown to anybody, it cracked just enough to have a medium size leak under ground, imagine my suprize when I received a $500.00 yep that's right a $500.00 water bill for 1 month
( & it was the month of Feb.)
I'm not so sure you would have described my temper as calm on this occasion either
They didn't have to call anybody in from Texass to fix this problem, only a town about 60 miles away..... you'd think I lived in the sticks, not 10 miles away from Springfield
Glad your internet, TV & A/C issues have all been resolved
Have a great day
PS I didn't pay the water bill

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
I've been reading this with some amusement. You seem to go a bundle on cable over there. Don't you have satellite? Satellite is much more popular over here, for TV anyway. And most folks use their phone lines for the internet, be it dial up or broadband. Although we have cable companies who do TV, phone and internet packages, they're nowhere near as popular as the other options.
Also, why did your cable problem affect the A/C? Doesn't that just run on your plain old electricity cables?
Glad you got it sorted though, no A/C in that weather would have killed me!!

In my area, cable is more reliable than broadband on the telephone lines. And with the number of severe thunderstorms we get here, satellite can be very unreliable, too. Dial-up is just too slow in most cases. I still have my telephone with the telephone company and use the type connected by wire. When the power goes out, I'm one of the few around who still has my house phone working. Most of my neighbors have cordless.
Laura, I was just thinking I might have to call them and request they have Miss Utility come out and mark the lines. I don't think they'll be crossing any, but I'm not sure. I definitely don't want any $500 dollar water bills.
Thanks, Ann. I forgot to ask him if he was from Texas, but I bet he got some training there!

Sharon, you're dead right about thunderstorms affecting satellite. We have satellite TV and get blue screen when storms are bad.
I have just replaced my old corded phones with cordless ones. I never thought about them not working if the power goes out.
Good job I have my mobile too. Although if the power was out for days, I wouldn't be able to charge it would I?
Note to self....Must go shopping for wind-up electrical items.....

Like Sharon, I'm on cable also because for the thunderstorms and hurricanes in our area. We are the lightning capital of the US. I had DSL through the phone company, but it went out everytime there were storms, so I switched.
As for phones, I have a corded one, cordless one and mobile. I learned last year during all of our hurricanes that if you have an adapter for your car, you can run the engine (if you have enough gas), plug the mobile into it and still be able to use and charge your mobile phone. So, Popo, just get yourself the adapter for your mobile that will work in the car - you won't need a wind-up!

I've got all three, too.
I'm just not going to give up my corded phone. We had trouble getting gas last time the electricity was out for more than a day, but having a car charger is definitely a must. I have to use my cell so much with my job, that I frequently need to charge it in my car, while at work.
Do wind ups still work?
I remember my grandmother had one of the old crank phones. I used to call it her wind up phone!

Do wind ups still work?

I was meaning the new type of wind-up things. Like the Bayliss wind-up radio. Trevor Bayliss invented it a few years ago, he's British btw
Since that was invented, there have been other things made, and one of them is a wind-up phone charger. You wind it up for about 2 minutes, then as it runs down again, it charges your phone. Dead handy if you go on camping trips into the great beyond.
Here endeth the lesson for today.
