New Level - Pirates !

Post by malcdelsol » Thu Apr 15, 2004 10:10 am

Hi Wonderlanders,

Just a couple of days to go now before Jan & I go back to the UK for 4 weeks to spend some time with our 2 children and 3 grandkids.
They are both on the internet so hopefully I will still be able to view/post on this Forum :P

Alas though, No downloading and playing your custom levels  and No messing about with the Level-Editor

So, as this is my last new level for a while I was going to make it a real 'stinker' (puzzle-wise) - but - you know how sometimes a level 'takes over' when you are creating it :!: - thats what happened here.

Therefore No mind-boggling puzzles, No need for quick fingers and nothing chasing you :!: :!:
So what is this level like then :?:

Firstly, it's NOT one for your hamster DG :?

Who remebers those 3+ hour cinema classics of yesteryear :?:
Films such as 'The Big Country', 'Ben Hur' and definately ' Gone with the Wind'.

They just don't make them like that anymore - OR DO THEY :?:

.
.
Wonderland Studios in association with Malcdelsol Productions bring you their latest release ........
Direct from the Box-Office and featuring - 'Short' Lou Stinky and his lad James Loof in ........

... PIRATES OF THE MEDITERRANEAN ...

Alt-x will give you an idea of the overall objective.

Good luck everyone

As for us - we're going to prepare ourselves for playing, not Wonderland, but Thomas (the tank engine), Bob (the builder) and Barbies, Barbies, Barbies
Oh - I might just come up with a few ideas for new levels as well :P

Looking forward to this one - NOT!!

Congratulations on your titles. Do you get to have tea with the Queen now?

Hope your heads don't get that big that you can't fit in the plane - and have you remembered to pack your woollies? You'll need them.

Have a good holiday, m'lord, m'lady.

Howdy, Lord Malc! This one is going to be another toughy, I see. Gave it a couple of tries so far, and didn't get anywhere. If only Stinky and Loof could swim. Well, gotta go back and try to figure out how to build that bridge. Hope you and Lady Jan have a great vacation with the kiddies, and we'll be eager to welcome you back to Wonderland! :D

I keep getting my ships mixed up! They look so much alike, after going back and forth a few times, I forget where I am! This is surely going to take awhile! But a VERY interesting level to leave us with! THANKS!! (I think!)

Right, I've figured out what I'm supposed to do but can I do it? No! :(

I've killed the kaboom in the gate, killed the coilys on the shore, got across to the other ship, but I can't get past the ufos...UNLESS...I'm not meant to come back... just had an idea...get back to you later... watch this space

Malc, this level is simply brilliant. The way you used the boulders is fabulously clever.

It took a lot of thinking out, but I am so glad to have done it.

And i got all the bonus coins at the end, after a mad chase by some pretty hungry looking cannibals, I should add.

Great fun.

Enjoy your hols mate.

Hi Wonderlanders,

WELL DONE OB - I hoped that this level would give you some fun

I have been waiting for your post as now I believe it is right for me to give some clues as to how to complete this level.

Hopefully everyone realises that there are just 2 ships - but each ship has a top-deck (left half of level) and a lower-deck (right half).

Therefore the layout of the coastline on both halves is identical - on the right is before the battle - the crew (coilys) having a BBQ - the left is after the battle - the locals (chompers) coming out to see what 'is in it' for them.

All of the items on this level need to be used to their maximum potential - many have to be used and then RE-USED :!: :!:

Here come the clues - read as many as you wish ..........

1. The 'exits' on the right beach are BBQ's. There is nothing else over there and as far as I am aware you will never have the correct amount of items on that lower-deck to be able to get accross.
THE exit is a 'cave' on the left beach - follow the Bonus coins.

2. Do not waste a box on the round pink button when a boulder will do.

3. Do not waste a box killing the look-out (kaboom) - you have plenty of time to achieve your objective and get back out. You can then re-use the box.

4. After using the reflectors (to reflect) you need them again so do not block them in.

5. A boulder from the lower-deck (right half) needs to be pushed all the way one way and then all the way the other. LOOK CLOSELY at the deck near the kaboom before making a move though.

6. Whoever you get accross to the kaboom MUST get back to help get the Loot - you cannot get back the way you came - another way is possible once you have completed correctly the pushing of the boulder mentioned above.

Hopefully the above will help many of you to complete this level as it took me a lot longer to create than any other level I have made - SO FAR
If anyone wants further info then I'll have a final look on here Sunday morning before we set off for the airport.

OB - it is possible you did some things differently to that intended - 'done me ead in ' working it all out

jg - you can be sure I will be dressing MANY, MANY Barbies :P - not heard of the Wiggles - not been back to UK for 6 months - I'm sure my grandkids will tell me all about them

THANKYOU for all your good wishes - Best go and pack me case

Your clues have just confused me more :?

I keep thinking I've sussed it but when I try my idea doesn't work. I've got as far as getting Loof past the UFOs but then I don't know what to do with the boulders, whatever I try they just get stuck. I've managed to get all the loot though and I killed the kaboom with the gate (extra points!). I keep thinking I should be using the reflectors to get rid of the UFOs but I can't get them in the right places.

I'm going to have a tantrum if I don't get some help soon :x

I do get stuck just like everyone else, but I always get there eventually.

I've solved every level posted except one. LNS posted the brilliant Diversionary Tactics level for the competition way back and I was so proud of myself for beating it, but this new version has me totally beaten. I just don't see how to divert attention from Loof long enough. I can't think what the new gameplay element could be, and since I'm not a level author, I doubt it's going to be something I'll just guess. So there you go, I'm human.

I have found some levels hard, but not very many; I tend to find most posted levels very easy, (no offence guys). I don't enjoy them any less because they are easy though. :D

The reason I don't post for every level is simply because it's just too hard to track where I have posted and I personally feel it's not always necessary. I've posted many personal tributes here to the level designers, they all know how much I enjoy their levels, so no need to post about every one. If someone, (e.g. jg or majic1 or eeyore) posts a set of levels on one theme, I'll post once commenting on the set. Much easier.

I do make a point of posting on exceptional levels though. Which is why I always post about the levels from some people and not others.

About the job: I work as a Customer Services Manager for a very large, very unpopular software company.

Oh Ye of little faith.

***SPOILER*** Inside the mind of a Bear. :)

For the sake of easy understanding, we'll pretend we have 4 ships.

The 2 guys get the two available boxes in the Bottom Left ship to the far (right) end of the Bottom Right ship to make a bridge to the Top Right ship using the box at the far Right of the Bottom Right ship to complete it. Move the box by the Pink switch to one side, use Pink switch to kill Kaboom and Coilys. Move the box through the Blue teleporter and use it to start a bridge at the Left side to the Top Right ship.

Stinky goes to Top Right ship. Loof stands on Pink button. Stinky can position one reflector ready to kill Coilys by Rainbow Coins. He should place it in line with the Right most Cannon fire from the Bottom Right ship, but not in line with the Blue switch.

(Old Bear's 1st diversion from Malc's plan):
I then got Stinky to the middle by sneaking along the bottom edge of the ship past the Scouges between shots, (this can only be done while Loof in on the Pink switch, of course). Stinky pushes the box Up one, then Left till it's in front of the Left UFO. He can then go along the bottom, safe in the knowledge that the UFO will hit the box and not him. He is now at the boulders which are the key to the whole level.

Loof must be off the Pink switch by now.

Stinky goes through Red teleporter and heads to the Right end of the Top Left ship. He pushes the Right hand box one place Left and then heads back to the boulders on the Top Right ship.

As I said, this is the key to the whole level and malc, it's genius. :)

Top boulder one space Right, bottom boulder Up against top boulder. Stinky goes Up and pushes the boulder Left, Down and then through the Red teleporter. It will then go to the Top Left ship smashing 2 wooden boxes and then stop.

Stinky then pushes the boulder back through the Red teleporter. It runs all the way to the lasers at the Right end of the Top Right ship. Loof can then push the boulder to the Bottom Right ship and manouevre it into the Blue teleporter. It will then pass through the Bottom Right ship smashing through all the middle boxes and freeing up the 4 boxes that Loof needs to complete his bridge from the Bottom Right ship to the Top Right ship.

The pink lasers are now clear.

Stinky can step on the Yellow switch, Loof can step on the Blue switch and the Scouges will destroy the Coilys by the Rainbow Coins. When they are all gone Loof can then take the reflector and place it on the Blue switch, freeing the path to the Coins.

Once he collects the Coins he then goes back down to the Bottom Right ship, Left along to the other bridge, back up across to the Top Right ship, through the Red teleporter to the Top Left ship. He and Stinky can create a bridge to the land using the now 2 free boxes and all 4 now free boulders.

Then it's home to count the treasure. Easy peasy.

Clear as mud. 8)

Thank you, thank you, thank you. (kiss, kiss, kiss) :D :D

I only needed to know where to push the boulders - I forgot they won't roll over bridges so I couldn't figure out how to get one in the middle so I clould push it down the teleporter

Tantrum over!

Hi Wonderlanders,

OK - if I were to write a full solution to this level I would miss my plane tomorrow morning :!: :!: :!:

So below is a guide as to the sequence of events needed to complete this level as I intended :-

1. Do nothing for now with the pink button.
Using both Stinky and Loof move the 3 free boxes on their top-deck through blue transporter to the back of their lower-deck and make a bridge accross to the lower deck of the Galleon (where the reflectors are).

2. Take the box at the back of Stinky's lower-deck accross and put this below the first UFO for protection - you can now go past the UFO. (I am going to assume you have taken Loof accross and Stinky stays .)
Use the box between the UFO's to repeat the protection to get past the second UFO.

3. Leave the boulders for now - take Loof down the red transporter and onto the top-deck of the Galleon.

4. There is a group of boxes/boulders. The furthest right box (at 3 o'clock) is on a false floor (bridge square) - this will stop a boulder and 'tie-up' most of these items - so push this box left into the center of the group.

5. Go back to the two boulders on the Gallean's lower-deck.
Push top boulder right - push lower boulder up onto the top boulder then left and down - you can now push it left through red transporter into the group of boxes/bouders on the top-deck.

6. Push this same boulder left back down the red transporter (top-deck to lower-deck ) it will roll past the 2 UFO's and stop at the gates by Stinky.

7. Stinky can now push it down accross the bridge between the 2 ships - then push it left/up and left again down blue transporter.
It will now roll through the group of boxes on the top-deck (where you started) and end up on the pink button.

8. Scouges are now firing so with care take Stinky back to the 4 free boxes where he started and push them down the blue transporter (with care) and immediately put them in the water going accross at the FRONT of the two lower-decks. You will be 1 box short for now. Take Stinky back to the gates (reflectors).

9. Minding the kaboom Loof to put a box on the yellow button and get back out.

10. Loof to take the last box down the red transporter and immediately down to COMPLETE THE BRIDGE at the front of the 2 ships - Loof can now go accross and minding scouges back to rejoin Stinky.

11. Put Stinky on the blue button.
Minding scouges Loof to put reflectors in place to kill the coileys (NOT TO KILL Stinky) and in such a place that you can get the 2 reflectors out again.

12. With great care - Loof to get reflextors back out. Loof to go in and collect the 3 coins (Bonuses if you dare !)

13. Loof to push a reflector down accross the back of the ships - left through the deck (minding scouge fire) - accross the brige at the front of the 2 lower-decks - through the red transporter onto the top-deck where the Kaboom is. Immediately push reflector up into water.

14. Stinky to repeat 13 with the second reflector.

15. Using both Loof and Stinky push 4 boulders into the same water.

16. Go and get out the box by the kaboom - push into water to complete your bridge onto the beach.

17. Collect Bonus coins on the ship ???????

18. Take Loof accross bridge onto beach and right to the exit . DO NOT go for the bonuses yet as the chompers will block the entence to the exit for Stinky.

19. Take Stinky accross bridge - go for Bonuses if you dare and get to the exit to complete the level.

20. Have a lie-down

I really do hope this is clear - you can, for safety sake, do a couple of the things above in a different sequence.

GO ON print this off and give it another go - YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO

Hi OB,

We were obviously typing our solution guides at the same time - it once again shows how a level can be solved in 2 or more different ways.

Mind you between us we could really of confused everyone.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time, I was in a bar down the Prom watching my team POMPEY thrash Man-United YES

Great level, I didn't use all the hints...............like to do it myself. :D

Still working on the Malaga to Luton one.

YOU DON'T give up easy do you - Congrats on completing this level

In 1 hour of bringing the Adventure in Space to the top it had 3 more downloads = 102

Now you have brought this to the top we'll have to see how many more IT gets , currently 92 :?:

When you complete Malaga2Luton let us know - could do with a few more downloads on that one as well

Happy to oblige Malc.

Often enough I bring long forgotten ones to the fore, I think it's a shame
when there's not very many comments.

It's so hard to keep up, with all these new levels coming out on a daily basis!

There's quite a few levels that I haven't got through yet, maybe some I never will! :?

I must write a comment on the other one of yours, Tootin Carmen.
I finished it also. 8)
