Help!!

Post by mlwest » Mon Oct 17, 2005 9:01 pm

I recently began having severe problems with my computer. The guy who worked with it installed Mozilla Firefox to use as my browser. Ever since then, I cannot download any new levels. I noticed on board that others were having this problem. I would like to know what to do to fix this. I tried uninstalling firefox, but my computer started messing up again after that so I reinstalled it.
Please HELP!

I don't know if it would cause conflict if you installed Internet explorer too and then used IE as your browser when you know you are going to visit the Wonderland forum. In the past I have had 2 browser on my computer (IE and Netscape) and could use whichever I chose with no problems. I have never dealt with firefox so I don't know about it. Our forum member Bearsland is the computer expert so you might PM him with questions. Good luck.

Hi Martha - I don't know anything about Firefox. But I would suggest you send a pm to Patrick - he may know about it and if this forum supports Firefox? It's worth a try, especially if Bear isn't around.

Good luck :D

Hi Martha. I use Firefox & download all the custom levels & models. I know that when it was first installed I had to go thru the "Help" menu & read about downloads because it was a bit different from Internet Explorer. It was sort of trial & error because I am certainly not a "techie" but eventually I got it to work.

When you click on the "Download" for a level, what happens? You have to click "Save to Disk" & request that Firefox asks you what file you want to save it to -- i.e. -- C:\Return to Wonderland Deluxe\CustomLevels.

Hope this helps. It was so long ago that I figured this out that I can't remember the exact procedure.

I have both browsers, so I tried downloading from Firefox. Here's what I got:

A box asking to open or save. I clicked Save. It never told me that anything was complete, but I noticed on the bottom of the browser there is the name of the file in a little box. If I put my arrow over it, it tells me details including where it's saving the file to. in my case it was c:\temp I don't know what yours defaults to.

If you are familiar with moving files in Windows File Explorer (assuming you are windows, not Mac), then you can right click the filename at the bottom and choose "open containing folder" It will open the folder where firefox saved the file to. Then you can open your custom levels folder in another window and click and drag (or however you are most comfortable moving files.)

To make it easier for future downloads, in Firefox, on the menu choose TOOLS, OPTIONS. On the left of the window that comes up look for the icon called DOWNLOADS. The first set of options will let you choose between "ASK ME where to save" and "ALWAYS SAVE in...." I'd choose the option to ALWAYS ASK. After clicking OK, you should be able to start downloading again like you're more used to.

Hope this helps.

Martha, just tried to backtrack as to what I did. In the Tools Menu at the top of your screen, click on Options. Then click on "Downloads" which is along the left margin. In the first section of the Downloads menu, tick the box that says "Ask Me Where to Save Every File", then click OK. You will want to save the files to: C:\Return to Wonderland Deluxe\CustomLevels.

Let me know if this works for you.

Guess we were posting the same thing at the same time.

I also use both browsers with no problems or conflicts.

That's exactly the advice I would have given. :D :D :D

The alternative is to use IE when you visit sites that give you problems.
