Post by Duiveltje » Sun Oct 30, 2005 7:53 am

I hope there is anybody who can help me.
I bought a new PC and installed averything the game and the patches.

If I play wonderland the games crashes and say "can not load model xxxx flag1".
After that I must use the escape-button and the game close.

The same thing happens to mine except its just when I play one with the models and only just some of the models. Some of them work and some of them do what yours did. Our computer is pretty new one to.

This sounds like a graphics card driver issue or maybe even a DirectX issue, but I'm not 100% sure.

You ladies should drop a PM to Patrick giving him details of your system, (especially the graphics card), he might be able to shed light on your problem.

Rose, I don't think your problem has anything to do with the CustomModels. Bear is probably right about the graphics card or DirectX.

Lulu, sometimes level makers make the levels too big, use too many objects, have too much going on (like lots of conveyers), or use too many models. That would cause problems like jerkiness, or even total inability to play a level. You can always load the levels in the editor, remove some of the extra stuff, and then try them again.

I don't think so because it happened on Shortys level and when I took out the model folder I culd play it. And then it happened on your #2 Halloween level but not your #1! I got the same message at the top that said that thing about flag 1 that Duiveltje said. But some models work and some dont I guess. Well on our computer.

Yes that is exactly the problem.
Most of the models are working and some not. On my old pc I never had that problem.
I will sent the link of this topic to Patrick meaby he can solve my problem and what I now understand, there are more nutters with the same problem.

Thank you all for your reactions

I agree with Bear. As with 99.9% of technical issues with the game, it is most likely a driver issue.

Try
1) going to www.microsoft.com/directx and re-installing the latest directx drivers

if that doesn't work

2) run windows update and apply any updates you see that have to do with your graphics card

and as a last resort

3) visit the website of the manufacturer of your video card (nvidia, ati, etc) and download the latest set of drivers for your card from there.

I already had, but I checked again, have all the latest drivers and the latest directX (v9c)
I also notist when I start wonderland it takes a longer time to start up than the old machine.
My graphic card is a Nvidia GeForce 6600LE. (Pentium 4/3200/memory 2x512).
So I really don't know what courses the problem. And it just happens with a few models.

PLease help Bear or patrick

Rose - have you checked if you have VERSION 2.06 of RTWD!

A couple of us have had right nightmares with levels because of that?

Go check and I will post a link to the game update if you only have version 2.00 8) You will see what version you have when you start up the game.

I have a question. I have the latest version of RTW. I update my laptop when it pops up with new updates. I have downloaded models with the levels. I cannot get any models to work. I could not get them to work on my other computer either. Everything should be up to date. My laptop is faster than my computer was so I generally don't have a problem with jerkiness. Anybody got any suggestions as to what I can do to get models to work? Is there a link or a patch that I have to have installed in order for any models/houses to work?

You don't need any updates or special stuff to see the models. The most likely reason is that you are missing something that you should be doing. Making sure that the CustomModels folder has no spaces in the name and that it is directly in the RTWD folder, not inside the levels folder or anywhere else. Also that all the models folders have only one folder not two or none, and you haven't changed the name on the folders since downloading them. You can always check the level in the editor to make sure the name used is the same as the one on the folder.

Unzipping them causes a lot of problems for people until you get the knack, but however you unzip them, just make sure that the rules are followed to the letter or they won't work.

If you're not doing anything wrong then I can't think what could be stopping them working.

I am having problems myself since I got my new computer. I managed to just transfer the RTWD directory over to my new hard drive and everything works fine. The models show up but not the textures. All the files are there but they don't show, everything is white. I should know what's causing it but I don't. I'll have to try reinstalling it properly and see if that makes the difference.

I had read the threads on downloading the models and all of that. I checked the file itself and everything is like is should be. I'll go back and try to see if I can get them to work. *sigh* *headache could be coming on, no fun*.

I find an fixed my problem!!!!!

Because I had a demo version of WINZIP8.0 the program put the letter M or O in the downloadfile. That means when I start the level there was no file with a good name.

So I solved my problem. So everybody who has the same problem look at the name of your downloadfile and see if it is changed.

Rose, I have found I have exactly the same problem as you with my new pc. I get an error message saying it can't load the texture for model 'whatever' and the 'flag 1' thing. The models are showing up but without the textures so they are just white blobs. I've looked through the the model files and all the textures are there with the same names they had before. I have just copied my model folder over from one hard drive to the other.

Heaven knows what I'll do if I can't get the models to work, seeing as I make them. The models without textures seem to be ok.

What's the point of new pc's if they don't work like you want them to.

I did the same I copied them from one harddisk to the other. But I thouht it was a problem with my WINZIP.
Now you make me doubt at that conclusion
So now I don't know it anaymore

I've tried changing the bit strength on my display from 32bit to 16bit, both on the game and just on my pc, and it makes no difference. I too have Geforce graphics, 6200LE 256MB. 1024MB ram. I didn't really want GeForce graphics but I thought the problems people were having with it had been sorted with the patch.

I can get all the models to show up, just not with textures. Although some are showing with textures. Lil's Egyptian level for instance, the pyramid shows with all graphics, and the camel crossing sign shows the camel but not the pole texture and the Tut's mask model has no texture. In my StinkyWonder level, the giant objects show, but only the reflector glass has a texture. I have checked and rechecked the model folders for discrepancies and there are none.

I'm also having a niggling little problem with programs I'm reinstalling. In the menu bar the words are on a white background instead of blending in with the rest of the bar. I can't make it go away. It doesn't stop the program working but it looks awful.

If this is technology, it sucks. If I can't get the models to show properly I'm not going to be able to make any more, cos I won't be able to test them. I am not a happy bunny.

Rose, look at this thread http://www.pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic ... 0726#60726

Patrick has sorted out the problem with the models, at least the one with textures not showing. Try resizing the textures as he says and see if it works. I've got some working already. I haven't tried one that had the 'flag1' thing yet though. :D

EDIT

It does work with the levels that get the error message. I changed the jpg sizes in all of them and now they all open ok. :D :D

you know, after all the times I have read through the illustrations that JG made on downloading custom models/houses and being able to see them, I finally figured out that I had a double folder in each download. So I have just spent the last hour going through, downloading, unzipping, and cutting and pasting into just one folder so that I could actually see the models in use! How tired I am from the kids. Of course, the time I am posting this (11:30 pm) doesn't help either but I usually hit a second wind and stay up late.

I'm glad you got that sorted out Amy. You'll be able to enjoy the loads of beautiful models now. Some levels are pointless without them. :D :D
