Today at 12.55pm a legend died. George Best 1946 -2005

Northern Ireland salutes a proud son.

I'm sorry if you didn't know him, I am sad today because we have lost him and the people of Ulster knew this wonderful fella for all his faults.

Geordie Best...... Simply the BEST!!!

Mo, I am sorry for your and Northern Ireland's loss. He was truly a great soccer (football) player. He died much too young.

Thanks Gen, after a week of reading/listening/watching news reports about George's health, we knew it was inevitable he'd pass away soon. It is still very heartbreaking nonetheless and Northern Ireland is in mourning.

I sat watching the the tributes on television last night for hours, it was so emotional and I decided to post this thread for anyone who felt our loss.

Maureen, Please accept my heartfelt condolences. I don't follow sports much and I don't know George but this is obviously an emotional loss for you personally as well as your country. Loss is difficult in any situation so please know your friends grieve with you. God Bless you.

Thank you Donna, that was very sweet.

Yes I feel the loss but so do thousands of others, maybe even millions.

The emails coming into our main newspaper from all over the world is incredible. So many wonderful stories, some make me laugh others are so sad I just cry.
