Wonderland vs. GeForce

Post by Blast!10 » Sat Jan 05, 2008 8:32 pm

Hi ho!
I have a problem with my monitor. Every 30-45 minutes I get a blank DOS screen with nothing more than a blinking _, and then it makes an EXTREMELY WEIRD distortion of the stuff I have on my screen; then it turns back to normal. Most of the programs I have installed are not affected by this DOS screen, but after the distortion I discover that any Wonderland window running has been turned completely black, Wicky Woo and Stellarium open up an error report message, and Sims 2 is SO FRAGILE that my computer doesn't respond anymore, and I have to turn it off using the power button

I probably have to get a new graphics card. I was recommended to buy *dramatic pause* a GeForce 256 Meg.

I read older topics on this forum and heard that some people had SERIOUS problems with the game(s), and most of them were using GeForce.

So my question is: Does anyone know how Wonderland will be affected when I'll use GeForce?

Thanks.

P.S. I have Wonderland Demo v1.16, WSW full 1.00, RTW Platinum 3.01, and WA 1.00.

The only thing between GeForce and Wonderland is that you have to have the jpgs the right sizes. It won't accept odd sized jpgs as most other graphics cards will. Most people posting any graphics now have learned to make them square and power of two, but there are still older things that have rectangular jpgs or ones that are just a few pixels out.

If you open a level with textures etc that are the wrong size you will get an error message saying it can't open such and such and you will have to press escape to get out of the game and start again, which is annoying, but it does tell you which graphic it is so you can find it and resize it.

It's easy to resize the jpgs in these instances, or ask someone on here to do it for you.

I've had a GeForce graphics card for the last two years and it's very good apart from this one thing, which is easily overcome, so don't let it put you off.

:D

Thank you! Now I can buy a GeForce graphics card without worries... Mainly because textures I (both for wall stuff and for models) make are always 64x64 or 128x128.
