Interesting Link: Games that Play themselves?

Post by Midnight Synergy »

Just thought this was interesting:
http://kotaku.com/5127251/nintendo-pate ... -in-design

In a nutshell: Nintendo is working on a method to make games that play themselves, allowing the player to "jump in" at any point in time. Interesting solution to the "too easy/too difficult" debate in games. Players can simply choose when to play the game, and let the automatic mechanism take over when it gets too hard for them.

And no, I don't think I'll do something similar for Wonderland. 8)

If you did, I would have done it on every existing level. 8)

Cool! Now soon enough I will be able to make the game play the "Bouldergeist's Daredevil Run" on Mario Galaxy (You have to defeat Bouldergeist with only 1 HP and I die right at the start of the battle lol)
EDIT: "But when played this way, gamers would not be able to save their progress, maintaining the challenge of completing a game without skipping or cheating."
That's no good... I'd rather try doing other levels and saving instead of making the game do Bouldergeist and then not being able to save your game after that. XD

Actually, I can't see how defeating Bouldergeist could be possible even with a computer instead of a human doing it.
Obviously Bouldergeist is played by a computer, not another player at the other side of the Pacific Ocean. If I'm right, Bouldergeist should start fighting immediately, and you will lose 1 HP and die.

Then again, I shouldn't be talking; I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about Mario games.

This is kind of like Professor Fizzwizzle! You watch the solution and jump in anytime! I hope this turns out as a success for Nintendo. :D

@Yuv: Well. I don't die when the battle immediately starts. I mean I die very early in the battle. IGN says that Bouldergeist is the hardest boss in Super Mario Galaxy and yet the creators decided to do a 1 HP battle against him. XD
And 1 HP isn't exactly low in SMG because at the start of a usual level you have only 3 HP anyway.

"You can't spell ignorant without I-G-N"

As for the subject, it makes me think of this video from Super Mario World (there is a topic about it, but it got no comments): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OM0ib4GxLPw
