My school introduced this to us last week. I kind of already knew about it, though. :P

I was playing this recently (I was going to "bump" it, but I couldn't find it and thought it got deleted). Why don't they just donate all there rice now?

It was originally come up by a father who's kid that wasn't obedient enough to want to be educated. So, he made him work in exchange for rice. He got the idea to start the website, and voila, it's been up here for a few years now and is massively popular.

And there's only so much rice in the world, you know.

Um, the point of Freerice is to spread his idea and to have more kids helped to be educated that way. If they just shoved the rice to random places, then there would be no Freerice site. :?

Good point... But if they gave all the rice then pretended they were sending the rice when someone got the question right then the children would be educated. Or am I missing some point?

If it worked like that, then it would be a scam. >.>

But they would have given the rice anyway (more rice even).

If they would say they'd be giving more rice and they don't, then it's a scam.

But they won't know (it is scammed, not "scamed").
If they did it my way everyone would be happier. Say one way someone wouldn't be happier.

Exactly! If the site lies about doing something good, then it's a scam.

Do you even know the effects a scam may have on society?

If anyone were to start a business and/or currency scam (with the currency, in this case, rice), then there would be legal trouble due to the fact the people were robbed of their efforts or THEIR currency. Ever watched Ed, Edd, 'n' Eddy? Well, the entire show is focused on the gang's scams, which all end up failing. You notice how they try to cheapskate out on other people's money.

So overall, almost all scams are illegal.

I don't understand. :?

But society won't know.
Think about it, if this happens, everyone will be happier.

Legal doesn't equal good.
Illegal doesn't equal bad.

This wouldn't be getting other's currency. This wouldn't be wasted effort because they would be getting educated.

Another debate I never thought I'd see.

The majority have been started by billy bob. And he seems to be in favor of illegal doings.

If it's a scam, then they'll have to take back everything they gave away. End of story.

It's not like it'd be hard to find out if they were legit or not - someone with access to shipping records could figure it out easily, and then they'd have to take back all the rice because it was illegally obtained.

But all that got the shipping records would see it as OK and wouldn't tell anyone else.
But think about it, this would make people happier, which is weird but true.

I never said that. I just thought of the idea and couldn't find any reason why it would be bad. I am not saying it should be done. But if no one can find a reason why not then I don't see why this shouldn't happen.
