So, about deleting topics. *URGENT*

Post by Qloof234 »

I can understand that it's an attempt to reduce the spam on the forum and all, but I just found out that the IRC topic was deleted.

The whole ruleset was written in there.

I can understand if you can't read all the topics, but now I have to constantly moderate the IRC channel to make sure that nothing against the rules happens. I really needed that topic so I could refer people to the rules whenever necessary, and now I can't, so I have to spend my own time making sure nothing that's unwanted occurs. That's not good.

Deleting topics won't help in the long run, either - It's not the topics themselves that are completely pointless, it's that the people writing them don't know that what they're writing qualifies as spam. Deleting topics won't help if the users don't learn what they're doing wrong. It's a more lenient way of trying to fix the problem, but it's also incredibly ineffective when a forum is at the state that ours is at.

There needs to be a more solid solution instead of just deleting topics. Be it moderators, suspending users, or something else, just deleting them without explaining what's wrong isn't helping.

I would suggest getting 2 or 3 moderators for each forum section (maybe even 4 or 5 for Off-Topic) to prevent this kind of problem to happen later on, since no one can moderate the entire forum and all of its threads.

I really would say more, but there's nothing more to be said :S

I really do think that there should be a mod or two*, because deleting topics really isn't helping.

*or more

Yeah, a mod wouldn't hurt.

On another note, locking them does serve the purpose of telling the user(s) that that specific topic is not to be discussed, since Patrick usually posts a message before locking, where deleting doesn't really help anything.

Totally agree, except that that is way to to many mods IMO.
Just two or three for the whole forum. (plus MS)

Indeed urgent, I think MS deleted my users and posts graph (reposting it soon) (no smilies used in this topic yet, how abnormal).

Deleting topics without even reading it is really irritating.

For Mod system I suggest following the old WonderForum method: 4 global mods moderating the forums. The moderation team would consist of 4 to 5 moderators, with 2-3 mature teenagers (I suggest Blast!10 and Qloof234) and 2 adults (I suggest popo and Liz).

Give us the "Silly Stuff" sub-forum back. It's about time.
Rest in peace, Kym. I hardly knew ya.
Rest in peace, Marinus. A bright star, you were ahead of me on my own tracks of thought. I miss you.

I agree. Silly Stuff is silly! But what would be silly? Hmmm....

How about some 9-year old with an 8-year old brother who makes awesome games for a moderator?

How about a moderator or understands how to do this but still has a sense of humor? :U

I'd say Blast!10 or Qloof234, personally :3

It is generally agreed that Blast!10 and Qloof234 should be moderators.

The top 3 mods should be:
1. Blast!10
2. Kyuu
3. Tyteen

I also think I would be a good mod. I'm not saying that I should be one, but that I will be there if Patrick needs an extra one at one point, or to moderate a specific thing.

Yeah, I wish I could be a moderator and I know the rules perfectly.

Some moderators have a sense of humor.

I could never be a moderator, only because no one thinks it's a good idea.

Anyway, I like all your suggestions of who to be a moderator! :D

You'd make a good moderator in my opinion, it's just when there's a topic about a missing period in a forum section description that I wonder what's going on

I've been a moderator on several other forums, and I did my job well. I'm not saying that I should be a moderator, but saying that I could.
