I just got Portal again yesterday!

Chamber 11.
13 seconds... Pretty damn fast, but I can get it just barely in 12 seconds, without bunny-hopping or anything like that.![]()
In his speed run he uses OoB (out of bounds) glitches to skip chamber 12 while he does it. Takes a few seconds but skips a whole level, saving tons of time.
Sorry, the times cannot be directly compared.
Portal 2 also looks like pure awesome, Valve has a bunch of videos on their YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/Valve
Portal 2 looks great.
I want that song from the end of the videos so badly.
Wasn't it just a shortened version of the song in "Portal 2 teaser trailer" video? The song is indeed epic, but the full version is even better.
As far as I'm concerned, when it comes to "skill" in FPS's, it depends a lot more on your knowledge of the level you're in than your actual skill.MyNameIsKooky wrote:I'm not thinking with Portals much. Sure, I beat the game, but I can't really grasp the designs of the Chambers in my memory, like if I were to get OOB I would have to know which part of the area is next to that.

I already posted all of the E3 stuff above - the compiled videos of it on YouTube are just low-quality camera recordings with placeholder sound effects and some guy talking over it.
First of all, if you use the challenge timing, the challenge timing starts when the elevator opens. YouTube seconds start BEFORE the elevator opens.Qloof234 wrote:My point is that I can finish Chamber 11 just a second less than him and I don't use any inherent exploits in Source - All I use are my reflexes and my ability to think with portals.
Actually, what I meant was that I'm good at memorizing video game environments, but like if you're trying to complete at level fast by glitching OOB you REALLY have to know which rooms are where.Qloof234 wrote:As far as I'm concerned, when it comes to "skill" in FPS's, it depends a lot more on your knowledge of the level you're in than your actual skill.MyNameIsKooky wrote:I'm not thinking with Portals much. Do you know the level better? In that case, it's far easier to use the environment to your advantage - and in games like what Valve makes, that can be a huge advantage or disadvantage.
I turned it down to 1 and it still lagged. I turned it down to 0 and it didn't lag at all, but I couldn't see through the Portal which doesn't help in most situations.Qloof wrote:MyNameIsKooky wrote: Also, I have a problem. I had this on my old computer - What Source does with portals is create a dynamic camera object near the other portal, and in lots of cases these can make the game lag quite a bit. Try turning down the Portal Depth option (that's what it's called IIRC), it can really help with rendering.
I'm still not using any exploits in my run, though.Muzozavr wrote:First of all, if you use the challenge timing, the challenge timing starts when the elevator opens. Second, even if you actually include those two seconds, even then -- no you can't.
Watch his OLD (non-OOB) video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytJ2s-apSZs
Chamber 11 in 12 seconds flat, YouTube timing. No ABH.
The reason he seems to be a second slower in his speedrun is because he goes OoB to finish inside the exit elevator for chamber 12. In other words, chamber 12 is completely skipped. His finish point is later than yours and it takes a few seconds to get there. Look when he gets near the chamber 11 elevator and you'll see he's there in seven seconds. Add one second to make up for the differences in timing between two YouTube videos. As evident in the older video, from that point he can get to the chamber 11 elevator in two seconds. So his time would've been 10 seconds. He just spends three seconds more to skip chamber 12.
You're still not better than him.I'm still not using any exploits in my run, though.*shot*
Don't worry, I believe you. (but you're still not better than him-*shot*)I'd record it and put it on YouTube but I really need to practice with it.
He discusses this in his "fade to white argument" video. The video is about timing issues and how to define the end of a Portal speed run.~xpr'd~ wrote:I found a glitch.
If you get into the cake room, and put the companion cube on the cake, the credits never start. It's impossible to fix once you kill GLaDOS.
It's actually really hard, that's why he only uses it once throughout the run, in a moment where it doesn't matter if he loses time because of the GLaDOS speech.ben-09 wrote:I can't get the seam glitch to work.
Yeah, the Seam glitch is a pain. I got it by accident on one chamber... I think it was 15? Can't remember.Muzozavr wrote:It's actually really hard, that's why he only uses it once throughout the run, in a moment where it doesn't matter if he loses time because of the GLaDOS speech.ben-09 wrote:I can't get the seam glitch to work.
